Hey there
I’m Michelle
The founder, maker, and one-woman show behind MISUKI, a boutique sustainable candle company based in Torquay, Australia.
Like many of you, I had become increasingly frustrated and overwhelmed with the heightened throw-away consumer culture.
I felt too small and insignificant as an individual to make any meaningful impact on saving our environment.
But I resolved that doing something was better than sitting back and doing nothing. After all, if each of us can make small tweaks and purposeful changes in our daily lives, then collectively we can make a big difference.
My idea for candles for climate change was borne out of experiencing first-hand the Black Summer bushfires that rocked Australia during 2019/2020. My first batch of candles raised funds for WIRES, a wildlife rescue organisation saving and rehabilitating Australian wildlife caught in the bushfires. Since then, MISUKI has donated to other incredible non-profits focused on environmental efforts, including Eden Reforestation Projects and Bush Heritage Australia. I continue to research and donate MISUKI proceeds to innovative non-profits dedicated to fighting the climate change crisis.
Thanks for coming along my journey and I hope my candles spark the sustainable spirit in you.
-Michelle
P.S. Where does the name MISUKI come from? It’s the first 2 letters of my name…. MICHELLE SUJIN KIM
what makes misuki candles unique?
countdown to Zero-waste
Each candle is made from a reclaimed glass bottle that has been cleaned, cut, and sanded by hand into a gorgeous candle vessel. Minimally packaged with refills available, I continue to find new ways to achieve a true zero-waste candle.
fighting the good fight
Proceeds from each candle purchased are donated to a non-profit organisation with a mission committed to researching and fighting the climate change crisis on a grander scale.
